Men Without Empathy

My two cents on the Epstein-Trump Virus.

One thing I'm certain of is that all of the men who availed themselves of the sexual favors of the young women offered up to them by Jeffrey Epstein told themselves the same thing: The girls were completely willing, doing it in exchange for what Epstein paid them, and although “on the young side” were ultimately consenting adults. Worse, the giant egos of these mega-narcissists easily convinced themselves the girls enjoyed sex with them, a lie which Epstein no doubt told them later. Bottom line, at no point did they imagine what the experience of the girls might actually be. (Or worse, if the girl seemed exploited or in distress, that increased their enjoyment of her. A chilling thought, but no doubt applies to some of the predators, at least.)

Of course these men were absurdly wealthy, because in order to become rich in the first place, you must be able to reduce and compartmentalize your capacity for empathy, as you must rationalize the exploitation of your employees, not to mention step over your rivals in order to get where you are, with no regard to being fair or ethical. And if you have inherited wealth, you are born with a sense of entitlement, i.e. “the rules don't apply to me.” Empathy? You've spent your lives with no reason to even attempt to imagine what it's like to be poor.

You'd think having wives and daughters would fix these men a little, but Ghislaine Maxwell is a perfect example of a woman who internalized these values, no doubt inherited directly from her father, and these men find wives similarly, if unconsciously indoctrinated, who the world through their husband’s eye and don’t see what is too uncomfortable to see.

My analysis is hardly groundbreaking. The part that mystifies me is how so many of the MAGA faithful pursued so doggedly the opening of the Epstein files knowing full well Trump had to be one of the stars of that shitshow. He’s an unapologetic pussy-grabber in plain sight and always has been, and his closeness to Epstein was well documented.. Any doubt that he was in the files was immediately dispelled by his obvious panic about them being opened. Did the MAGAs clamoring obsessively about the deep state pedophile ring that rules the world really not think Trump would be in there? I just can’t believe that. This contradiction has me a bit stumped. It’s almost like they’re sick of Trump and want to get rid of him while ostensibly staying true to the principles that led them to support him in the first place.

Like all of us, I've been waiting so long for "that thing" that constitutes a tipping point, the torpedo that scores a direct hit on the engine room. I can't manage to be confident that this is it, but I allow myself moments of hope, and gobs of schadenfreude.

P.S. Here’s the other thing I think Trump is scared of being in the files. Something about money. Jeffrey’s wealth was also mysterious, as, in many ways, Mr. Bankruptcy’s was. There could be evidence that Trump was being groomed as a Russian asset for quite some time, and the money for his “wealth” was laundered through Epstein. It does sound logical, doesn’t it?
